Hello!
I just wanted to share one of my 'aha' moments from last week. I would have uploaded last week, but I had a little trouble with this site as I am just getting familiar with it.
I used my PLN to reach out and ask about the role of grammar in an ESL classroom, one response that I got said with the spread of Communicative language teaching methodology that explicit grammar instruction went out of fashion, but that they were still in favour of it. Not grammar for grammar's sake, but grammar points connected to specific functions, genres or meaning. That to them it is important that whatever 'rules' are being taught are based on usage and not prescriptivist leftovers from another time.
This is an 'aha' moment for me because I got to look up a couple of new terms, but it also re-enforced the teaching style I think I might take.
